FIELD DESCRIPTIONS: TYPEDOC A one digit code identifying the type of document (record); "0" is a vessel entrance record "1" is a vessel clearance record ECDATE The date a vessel made entry into (entrance record) or cleared (clearance record) the U.S. Customs port. The 5 character date format is Month, Year, Day; where Month = 01-12; Year = the last digit of the year; and Day = 01-31. PORT Contains the port or waterway code used by the Army Corps of Engineers to represent ports or waterways in the United States. The files are predominately vessel moves between United States ports and foreign ports. There are a few cases where the United States origin or destination is not in a port area. In these few cases the four digit code would be assigned the waterway code because there is no port code to associate with the United States facility. For example, some vessels call at facilities on the Delaware River that are not in port areas. The 4 digit code would be the Delaware River code (waterway 5250). Records for vessel calls at Philadelphia or Trenton would have the appropriate codes for Philadelphia (port 0552) and Trenton (port 0553), not the Delaware River code. PWW_IND Indicates whether the PORT field contains a port code ("P") or waterway code("W"). PORT_NAME Contains the description for the U.S. port or waterway code. (Included in file \WCSC\DATA\WATERWAY.TXT; definitions of the codes are used for both waterways and ports; some descriptions are truncated). VESSNAME Contains the vessel's full name up to 36 characters. RIG Contains a 1 digit code to represent the type of vessel. The six rig types used by the Maritime Administration are: 1 Motor Dry Cargo, Steam Dry Cargo 2 Motor Tanker, Steam Tanker 3 Tug 4 Barge (other than tanker), Scow 5 Tank Barge 6 Other, including Yacht, Gas, Sloop, Schooner, Sailboat, Houseboat, Rowboat, Research Vessel ICST Contains the 3 digit International Classification of Ships by Type code developed by an ad hoc international advisory group on Maritime Statistics and completed in 1994. The classification is based on the construction characteristics of the marine structure and not upon its particular use or cargo carried at a point in time. (File ENTCLRN\DATA\ICST08.TXT or \ENTCLRN\DBF\ICST08.DBF has the icst code descriptions) FLAG A two character code for the nationality or country of registry (flag) of the vessel. (File \ENTCLRN\DATA\FLAG068.TXT or \ENTCLRN\DBF\FLAG068.DBF has the flag code descriptions) WHERE_PORT This field will contain the 4 digit port or waterway code used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers if the last port of call for the vessel before entering a domestic port(entrances), or the first port of call for the vessel after clearing a domestic port (clearances) IS DOMESTIC. Otherwise, this field will be null. WHERE_SCHK This field will contain the 5 digit foreign port code (Schedule K) maintained by the Transportation Branch, Bureau of the Census if the last port of call for the vessel before entering a domestic port(entrances), or the first port of call for the vessel after clearing a domestic port (clearances) IS FOREIGN. Otherwise, this field will be null. WHERE_IND Indicates whether the WHERE_NAME field contains a U.S. domestic port ("D"), which describes field WHERE_PORT or a foreign port ("F"), which describes field WHERE_SCHK. WHERE_NAME Contains the description for the U.S. port code if WHERE_IND is "D" or describes the foreign country if WHERE_IND is "F." (File \SCHEDULEK\DATA\KCODE.TXT contains the foreign port and country codes and descriptions and File \WCSC\DATA\WATERWAY.TXT contains the U.S. port and waterway codes and descriptions.) NRT Contains the net registered tonnage of the vessel. GRT Contains the gross registered tonnage of the vessel. DRAFT Contains the draft of the vessel in feet; defined as the depth of the water necessary to float a vessel. CONTAINER Indicates whether vessel carries containers ("C"), or not (blank). IMO Contains the IMO number (LLoyd's Register), which is a unique vessel identifier.
